I’m not very familiar with this styles of art but I do really enjoy it. I’m looking forward to researching different techniques and styles and hoping that my readers will enjoy following my journey. I’d appreciate opinions, advice and general comments. I’m planning to visit the Library in search of Manga books. I’d love to hear your recommendations. I will be uploading the pictures as I find and attempt to draw them.Matthew Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04063487963256581561noreply@blogger.comBlogger11125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6081040419348626317.post-52421074352171606202010-08-19T04:16:00.000-07:002010-08-19T04:23:10.520-07:00YouTube Video- Trigun finale- GoodbyeThis video seemed appropriate!

Matthew Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04063487963256581561noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6081040419348626317.post-86323318299985982722010-08-19T02:32:00.000-07:002010-08-19T04:07:27.295-07:00Quick Form lessonSo I haven't finish my scene yet.... actually I haven't started on it yet and I probably wont get around to it. I know you're all probably thinking "get off the computer then and start it!!!", but I've wasted to much time already to even get half way through.

So what am I gonna write about in this last blog for English?
I have no idea so I'm gonna tell you about a quick drawing lesson I learnt in form today.

Pretty much what happened was that Vivian got a scrap piece of paper (actually it was Kens' overdue book reminder but who listens to those) and in less than fifteen seconds had drawn a perfect looking eye. I was amazed, if only Ken had gotten an overdue book reminder earlier.

Thanks Vivian, for a 15-second lesson and for giving me something to blog about!

Vivian's 15 second eye drawing!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 109px; height: 137px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsHQ2yFfy9RbbhL-l5thS1-nCPv0_IlCxE4za-WtudzsDheWTvpvlt5VZPNkDGGmNEBni1mCypQuG4aXO2VzrpKqHA5M5kpPXkP0RJvAERktljfDdgFWMW9RrcnbAam3AdzRFPduwwzEs/s320/Untitled2.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507072968412468530" />Matthew Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04063487963256581561noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6081040419348626317.post-38009537786547296342010-08-18T04:36:00.000-07:002010-08-18T06:09:21.760-07:00No TimeHey,...ahh havent had time to start the comic scene yet because of art assignment, But I should have it started and hopefully finished by tomorrow. I’m thinking that I might actually go with the fight scenes from FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST- where Edward vs Number 48 (a soul in armor) (see below) which is an epic battle as Edward has to defeat Number 48 twice (no one said there could only be one soul for one suit of armor....they were brothers)

Come on I just need about twenty or so words for this blog to count. There exactly one hundred words now!Matthew Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04063487963256581561noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6081040419348626317.post-60304613687941392362010-08-17T06:37:00.000-07:002010-08-17T21:39:36.175-07:00What to doFor my last blog I'm wanting to try and re-draw a scene from one of my favorite manga series. I realize this will take a few days so I will be posting on my journey (if you can call it that).

I'm thinking of maybe doing the scene from TRIGUN MAXIMUM, with Vash and Wolfwood on a motorbike (see below) as it is simple and I just love that part. But I might go with one of the fight scenes from FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST- where Edward vs Number 48 (a soul in armor) which is an epic battle as Edward has to defeat Number 48 twice (no one said there could only be one soul for one suit of armor....they were brothers), or the fight scene from BLACK CAT-where Train vs Mr Won, which is fairly long.

Granted that my drawings wont look anything like the scenes, I might use the software Comic Life on my computer to make it look a bit neater. Ow and I should point out that in keeping the original Japanese format your meant to read it from right to left starting in the upper-right corner.

Scene from TRIGU MAXIMUM #2
Matthew Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04063487963256581561noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6081040419348626317.post-20703480115546536712010-08-15T04:59:00.000-07:002010-08-17T06:36:34.507-07:00What Manga Character Are YouI was just surfing the Internet when I came across a very interesting website and I thought I might share it with you.
The link is from the Quiz Farm and after you answer 18 questions it will tell you which manga character you are.

I Scored as Jing from Jing: King of Bandits
It was a tie so I had to answer another question.

Rest of Scores
Naruto ----------------------83%
Jing--------------------------83%
Yoh Asakura---------------67%
Renton ----------------------50%
Monkey D. So I didn’t do anything yesterday either because I was too lazy.

Process
-So you start with a loose stick figure for foundation, remember all those stick people you used to draw in school? This is when you realize how useful they are.
-Next you have to start to flesh out your illustration

-Then start tightening up your art by grabbing an eraser and rubbing away the fine sketchy lines and any unwanted lines. Make sure your picture is clean before you go on.

-Start adding the details.

-Correct any mistakes made in the building process and add colour.

Below are the final pieces

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 143px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpQhF_jtsMCbSLj46AgTBY8a19DfY43kuqqmVdVp8TnKlDdckLl04O29g14RlLeVGNBwC7yzMs7ofqvpZ2uEB3da1cM6nDoD0ADvdtdNd-t-LSbkFFLa6S0TKHcBgN7u4xBxYvKqpSERk/s320/Untitled18.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5505597013016825090" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 143px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIS-Gyh6j950u2vpIBbNmfbb1ytpM_XWPzC_Nn04gfUbCksiyWy6rD10qe8DFNwJ4C8B3e_LiCgFXAd5ox4ey-gx-b29CbZLeY9GXhJnwLhpZcH_tnxdSyuTJOAXmo1bAy_PXOHOXHVX8/s320/Untitled17.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5505597009788837698" />Matthew Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04063487963256581561noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6081040419348626317.post-24080684780503290672010-08-11T19:38:00.000-07:002010-08-11T19:39:12.489-07:00What got me reading mangaAs I haven't been able to finish a drawing yet I'm gonna tell you how I started reading manga/anime books.

I first started reading manga comics when I was in my local library and I came across the first book of the Trigun series and I thought what the heck, why not. At first I thought it was quite confusing but as I read more of it, it all came together and i loved it. The next day I went back to the library and got the next five books. After I had read the complete series I moved onto the series of Black Cat. This was harder to find and I've only been only able to find the first and fourth book. I also want to start reading the Bleach series but cannot find any of the books.

I should be able to have a picture up by Friday and this time it will be a full body drawing in colour (hopefully).Matthew Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04063487963256581561noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6081040419348626317.post-65093428175963026692010-08-09T04:28:00.000-07:002010-08-09T05:11:10.933-07:00Nothing to studyWith nothing to do in study period (except maybe study for Math’s), I decided that I would sketch something for my blog. There was only one problem.... I had no paper to draw on! I searched all around for a blank piece of white paper without any success.

The only paper I could find was the lined paper in my English book. I have always been told that if you draw something never use scrap or lined paper. Because I didn’t have any other paper this rule did not apply.

So I sketched a girls face …What’s this you say another face?! Yes you read right another face. I guarantee 100% that next time I would have drawn the whole character! Make that 80% guarantee. Actually lets just take it down to a 50% guarantee just to play it safe.

So here it is, the drawing that took a total time of 10 minutes to draw and 20 minutes of staring into space.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 293px; height: 289px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtRlA99UynKHfn7N_c7s1BliBZ7i-e3PGDDF91OLEbq0vjRR1iEvf6ogZ1QAI35WvJbZeJzACsEaRT1ippCkMi_SPd4LEalIRF83ky5joiD7TK9iAP-zWXhIne7DHPx_0lhGQ4Ihl_U8c/s320/Untitled12.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5503380936397982194" />Matthew Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04063487963256581561noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6081040419348626317.post-18704458733427026872010-08-08T02:41:00.000-07:002010-08-08T18:17:13.611-07:00Heads are much easier!Ok, so I went back to drawing faces instead of whole bodies, big deal. I found it much easier. So today I went to the local library to do some research and I found a great book, “How to draw more MANGA” by Katy Coope. It’s a very basic book and it takes you through the steps involved in drawing characters. When it comes to faces, you start out by drawing the basic egg shape. Some lines follow this, one vertical and three horizontal, to ensure you get the dimensions correct. The next step is to draw in the facial features and hair. Once you have done this, you can start working on the detail.

I enjoyed drawing this face much more than drawing the whole body, but I do want to be able to successfully finish a full body that I’m satisfied with. I’m sure that the more practice I get, the better I’ll become. So maybe next time.

I have attached my drawings below; the first is a pencil drawing, the second is a coloured version.

Matthew Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04063487963256581561noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6081040419348626317.post-28437038547037778972010-08-01T08:37:00.000-07:002010-08-08T18:18:49.489-07:00A sleepy attempt at drawing male figureOk, so I was getting into bed when I realised I had not updated my blog and I had not drawn anything yet. So tonight I attempted my first full body manga drawing whilst I was half asleep. Its quite sloppy and I did not really feel like doing it.

I had a lot of trouble with the face, so much trouble that I nearly succumbed to the dark side of tracing the face. I pushed through and after a long and gruesome five minutes, I gave in. With half closed eyes and unsteady hands, I tried to trace the male character’s face. To my horror, I realised that I had drawn the body out of proportion. I had tried to copy the original picture but the head was too small. I had to rub out the face and start again.

I also changed the hairstyle for my character to a much simpler one. Using the more detailed hairstyle would have taken more of my sleeping time and I’m just so tired tonight.

I am now going to publish this post, sign out and fall onto my bed because as I write this right now, my head flops over the keyboard with my fingers drifting from key to key.
So here is the picture

Matthew Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04063487963256581561noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6081040419348626317.post-50270813124889952712010-07-27T05:48:00.000-07:002010-07-28T00:17:18.484-07:00So here it is my first attempt.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 217px; height: 281px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPPGC-0zy0d8CPul6_tt0UBZ24kKzikqnWvgba31PzBQbls3HEsgnAPzkw9hJXmDCi7xQMAnRGwjCrd9XI3gRzTKhJe4gNdd2nu8SQZunRpRRwxLqDOmqszXG5-PvYWn-OF3UBrrKWa4I/s320/Untitled2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5498582112256095890" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 252px; height: 262px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTUxorJ1RXKAh95oo7_Uu3762C_DNa7FeKF-J7iL7h2G64FOgyWsI_TLPapj7rKe15IbKIbWk4xX7kw_CmsBm8iiEXWXD9Fp6NubrVncgnmq1vkeHLUDnbs7R8vtpej7TOeNgXq7I7ZTE/s320/Untitled1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5498582109425872386" />

Today I attempted my first manga sketches. My first attempts were much better than I anticipated. I’m not saying I have zero confidence in my sketches but I was expecting my first couple of attempts to total failures.

I found that the hardest part of the drawing was to get the eyes right. I think that the eyes were the hardest because they play such an important role in expressing the character. Not only was it hard to make sure that the eyes are balanced but I also had to make sure they showed the emotions of the character.

I believe that the second hardest part of the head to draw is the hair because it is intensely detailed. There are many styles to choose from. I chose the simplest style for my beginner drawings.

All in all I am very satisfied with my first attempts. I have attached my drawings please tell me what you think. I will be uploading more attempts later.Matthew Stonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04063487963256581561noreply@blogger.com6
